That is how this island got its name Pamburuti.The famous Parasshini Muthappan temple is located on the banks of Valapatnam river. Its 16 kms to reach this temple from Kannur city. The capital of the Mushika kingdom Vallabhatnam was the capital of the Mushika dynasty during the reign of the Mushika king Vallabha II. That is what is known as Valapattanam today. This is the longest and widest river in Kannur district. This river originates from the Brahmagiri Hills in Kodagu district, Karnataka. This river joins the Arabian Sea, almost after flowing 110 - 150kms from its origin.
